Key ideas to know
Start with the relationships between ideas. Then close the notes and explain each one from memory.

The main idea states what the whole passage says about its topic.

A stated-detail answer should be traceable to a specific sentence or pair of sentences.

An inference is permitted by the passage even when it is not stated word for word.

Author purpose describes what the writer is doing, while tone describes the writer's attitude.

Sequence questions track the order of actions, causes, or instructions.

A context clue can come from a definition, contrast, example, cause, or nearby restatement.
